The heavens are telling of
the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring
the work of His hands.

~Psalm 19:1~
Dear Friends in Christ,
When things seem to be discouraging and difficult, I often remember the words to a song, “It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus, life’s trials will seem so small, when we see Christ, one glimpse of His sweet face, all sorrow will erase, so bravely run the race, till we see Christ.” We pray that you have a relationship with Jesus, such that you too can look forward to seeing Him in Heaven one day. We will fall down and worship Him, thanking Him for ALL He has done to make it possible for us to be with Him in such a wonderful place, Heaven.
God had His hand over Kenny’s trip to Haiti in June and July. He orchestrated Kenny’s travels for His purposes. It was an amazing trip. Ten homes were completed providing 10 new families with comfortable living conditions. It is exciting and encouraging to be a part of this project and to minister this way. Also, a company from the Dominican Republic was hired to drill a well on the property. Clean drinking water is a major issue in Haiti. It isn’t available in many areas which makes life extremely difficult. Women and children spend hours each day hauling water on their heads in 5 gallon buckets for their families. Hopefully, this area will soon have access to good water. The men from the Dominican spoke Spanish, so Kenny was able to talk with them directly. He used English to interpret for Lussade so he could understand. This gets pretty interesting sometimes.
Kenny traveled to Cayes and spent a few days with Pastor Etienne building benches for his church. While there, Pastor Etienne’s family went through a very difficult time. Kenny called one night and asked us to pray for Etienne’s brother, William, who is a Christian. He was having some serious physical problems. Within a couple of days, William went into a coma and he passed away the next morning. Everything happened so suddenly that Pastor Etienne didn’t have time to go see his brother and speak with him before he was gone. We are so grateful that God allowed Kenny to be there with him at such a needy time in his life. Pastor Etienne sent the following e-mail that we would like to share with you.
“Thanks a lot my brother. I also want to thank you for allowing Kenny to be with me in Cayes. I must tell you that he was a great help to my family and me during the time that my brother died. He was sent by God to comfort my family and me. He was not there to build benches only but for far more beyond what we can think of.”
This is the heart of our ministry. Building homes for people ministers to their physical needs, but being there to minister to their hearts is a privilege!
Pastor Peti Noel was having the closing service for his school when Kenny dropped in for a visit. Although it was unexpected and Kenny wasn’t prepared to speak, they honored him by asking that he share a few words with the children and their families. Lussade interpreted as Kenny spoke to them.
hot water heater was shipped to Lussade’s family and arrived during Kenny’s stay, so he assisted with the installation. Here in the states we think nothing of taking a shower and immediately having hot and cold water. It is just another convenience that most of us take for granted. In Mexico and Haiti it is not the same. Many people do not have running water much less hot water. Lussade’s family will now be able to have hot water without heating it on the stove.
While things are very difficult in Haiti, life continues to be difficult in another way for our friends in Mexico. Many people are afraid for their lives and the lives of their families. The Lord has been working mightily with Pastor Isidro and Sister Flory in Reynosa during this fearful time. We were blessed to spend some time with them this month. We enjoyed hearing about the ministry going on in their new church, ‘Buen Pastor Periferico’, which translates ‘The Good Shepherd’ and Periferico is the name of the colonia where the church is located.
Their son, Eliezer, oversees the music and youth programs. He is teaching the young people to share Christ and evangelize. They have seen some very troubled people come to Christ. Pastor Isidro and Flory are taking full advantage of this time. They pass out tracts on the streets of Reynosa inviting people to give their hearts to Christ and invite them to church. They have prayer vigils during the week and many people are attending. Sister Flory hosted a ‘Coffee Conference’ for ladies. Twenty women came to Christ! Though satan throws many hurdles every time they try to meet and share Christ, the Lord proves Himself all powerful and amazing things are happening!
The new church is flourishing. Pastor Isidro and Flory are very excited. They left an established and large church to begin this outreach where there are no other churches. Because of ‘Only a Servant Ministries’ example, they made the decision their leaders will not have traditional titles but will be called ‘servants’. In this way they will remove the possibility of superiority and will reflect the attitude of Christ whom they are there to serve, not to be served. Wow! We were humbled and blessed. This new church was started in February of this year and already 400 people are attending! What a hunger in this area! They want to move from the very nice building they are currently renting, and begin meeting on the property the Lord directed them to. They are praying for a building to hold about 400 people, and hope to start soon and build in stages.
There are 2 churches who need OSM’s assistance. We would be very excited to lend a hand in providing an adequate building for our friends in Reynosa. Also, the area in Haiti where Kenny has been working is in need of a church. What an opportunity this would be to help with these churches! Please pray with us and let’s see how God directs us in this matter.
This month Bible schools took place in Nava and Reynosa. The Lord continues to work through these churches. Because of the lack of room, we will report more on the Bible schools and the evangelistic trip Lussade’s church made to the northwest of Haiti in next month’s newsletter.
What a mighty God we serve, angels bow before Him, Heaven and earth adore Him, He is truly the One our lives should be serving. We are privileged to be a very small part of His strong army.
Sending out a monthly newsletter, we go to great lengths to express ourselves in new and unique ways, so not to be repetitive. But our vocabulary often fails us. Our desire is always to glorify the Father through the Son. We are extremely thankful and blessed that you allow us to represent you in the mission fields of Haiti and Mexico.
Because of Christ,
The Kennedy Family
