November 2009
Dear Friends in Christ,
What a blessing and privilege to attend the first Shelby Kennedy Foundation National Bible Bee in Washington D.C. this month!! The finals were held a little over a block from the White House on November 6, Shelby's birthday. The planners were unaware that her birthday was on that date when they scheduled the event. What an awesome God we serve.
It was amazing to hear children, ages 7-18, spend hours quoting scripture after scripture. Even though we knew that this could be an encouragement to many people, we were truly shocked at all the stories we heard of how memorizing so much scripture impacted these young people and their families. We heard testimony after testimony of ways the Lord had worked in the families who participated in the Bible Bee. These stories were coming from just the 300 families represented in Washington out of the original 17,000 participants. One woman shared that her daughter had lead poisoning when she was younger, leaving her with some serious mental challenges. She decided to try the Bible memory schedule having no idea her daughter would even be able to do it. She and her daughter worked very hard to memorize the verses and actually scored high enough to come to Washington, D.C. This was a major physical breakthrough. What a miracle of God's grace for her daughter!!
As you can imagine, the whole event was emotional for our family. We were blessed that quite a few family members were able to attend, praise the Lord. Throughout the Bible Bee most of the children knew very little of Shelby Kennedy. During the awards ceremony a short documentary telling of Shelby's love for God's Word and her zeal for missions was shown. That night and the next morning several children came and told us that the testimony of Shelby's life had impacted them very much. We are so happy that the Lord is using Shelby's life story in such a moving and encouraging way for young people and their families!!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the board and staff of the Shelby Kennedy Foundation, Mark, Kit, and Taylor Rasche (Executive Director & family), Steve Schapansy and family (Videographer), and many, many volunteers. The Bible Bee was a tremendous success and we pray that it will continue to be so in years to come. Most importantly we want to praise the Lord for this wonderful vision given to a special friend of the Kennedy family during Shelby's memorial service. To God be all glory and honor!!

Coming home from Washington we were ready to go to Nava. The night we arrived we attended a church service and were so happy and blessed to see our dear friend, Pedro. He has not been in church often since his truck accident. This resulted in a stroke which left him disabled. It was a gift from the Lord to see him and his lovely wife Olivia able to attend church once again together.
We learned some heart breaking news about our friend Oscar. You may remember many pictures of Oscar helping us build the Caretaker's House. Just a few days after we left last month, his dear wife had a sudden heart attack and passed away. Oscar is left with 2 precious and beautiful daughters to raise. This family has made no professions of Christianity. We are so sad that we no longer have the opportunity to share Christ with Mariel. Please pray for Oscar and his daughters as they adjust to life without their wife and mother.
We spent a couple of days working at the home of Brother Braulio and Sister Paulina. They are so grateful that the funds were sent to install 2 propane tanks and a new stove/oven in their home. Paulina cooks from her home daily for the John 3:16 Feeding Program. Praise the Lord for this need being met!!
Spending time in the Dorcas House and the Carpenter Shop was encouraging. Both projects continue to be a blessing to many young people who live in the colonia. Lety shared that one of her students, Angeles, needs a pair of glasses. She has trouble seeing to sew. If anyone would like to help Angeles receive a pair of glasses, the cost is $150 for an exam and the glasses.
We are grateful for the Lord's provision to give away 2 heaters this month. These families expressed their gratitude for your concern and gifts that will provide heat this winter.
One evening, Kenny hosted about 50 people from the churches at the Ranch of Faith for a bonfire and hot dog roast. Everyone had a great time, they played games, cooked hot dogs, and had a devotion led by Pastor Santos.
Please pray for Micah as he is in Haiti for 2 weeks. He will be spending some time in Joli-Guilbert and then a few days in Port-au-Prince checking on the two O.S.M. schools. We look forward to sharing more about his trip in next month's newsletter.
Last month several of you contacted us asking for more copies of the brochure that we sent sharing some specific needs for Mexico and Haiti. Please let us know if any of you would like more copies to share with your Sunday School class, your Bible study, or your church mission information, we would be happy to send them to you. Also, for more information and pictures about our month, please go to our web-site and click on Current News and Photos. Thank you so much for your interest!!

Because of Christ,
