October 2009
Dear Friends in Christ,
We had the privilege of hosting Steve Schapansky from Real Purpose Media this month. Steve is from Santa Barbara, California. He designed the web page for the Shelby Kennedy Foundation/Bible Bee and is now working on a documentary of Shelby's life. He spent a few days interviewing our family and a few close friends about Shelby, her life, and how she impacted our lives. It was emotional to talk about Shelby as we miss her very much! Steve joined us in Nava to learn about Shelby's involvement with O.S.M. and to interview a few of our friends there. Pastor Santos, Sister Fini, and a few other members from the John 3:16 Church shared their love and appreciation for Shelby.
The night before we were to leave for Nava, the power steering went out on the Excursion. The car stayed in the dealership in Eagle Pass most of the time we were in Nava, which left us short on transportation. After 3 dealership visits and a bill for $800, we finally got the problem repaired.
We had a tile layer and his crew come lay Saltillo tile in the caretaker's house. It took a few days for them to get the tile laid, grouted and dried. When it was finished, it looked great! While they were working , we had a few visitors from Wayside Chapel in San Antonio. It was a blessing to host David and Beth Butler and Rick Lowe for a couple of days. They came to see the work of O.S.M. in Nava. We enjoyed giving them a tour of some of the homes we have built, the John 3:16 Church, the Dorcas House, Carpenter Shop, and Ranch of Faith. We also introduced them to some of our friends and leaders in the church. They hope to have families from their church join us on a few trips. We are excited by the idea of working once again with families and small teams of 12-15 people. Please contact us if you are interested in experiencing Mexico with your family, church, or small group. We would love to host you and share the vision first hand that God has given us in Mexico!
Any time we spend with Julio and his family is always a blessing to us. They came one evening for hotdogs, chips, brownies, and ice cream. Though they can get ice cream in Nava, it is a big deal when they can enjoy this treat with friends. The girls were so much fun to entertain. They enjoyed seeing an aerial view of their home on the computer. Things that we take for granted are still very exciting for them.
Four children who we have known for quite a while came to our home several times this month. They are Angelica and Jose's children, Angeles, Elizabeth, Pepe, and Jose. They spent hours picking up pecans and playing in our yard. Their family has broken apart and now the children aren't receiving the supervision and care they need and often don't go to school. The people in the church try to reach out to them and help when and where they can, but the situation is very difficult. We provided a couple of meals, printed off some Bible story pictures for them to color, and invited them help us with some pictures. They are very sweet children and it is heartbreaking to see the circumstances they are living in.
This year has been a tremendous challenge for O.S.M. financially. On the whole, O.S. M. is running quite a deficit. However, Sept. and Oct. have been encouraging, and for this we thank our Heavenly Father! We continue to lift up you and your families in prayer, understanding that many of you have faced challenges this year as well.
Knowing that Jesus Christ is good and faithful and ALL that He has done for us, we have so much to be grateful for every day. May you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day celebrating Him!!
Because of Christ,
The Kennedy Family
