Dear Friends in Christ,
We arrived in Haiti a week before the wedding. A couple of days later, Ken and I decided to drive to Grassier. We wanted to see the home OSM rented for Kenny and Laissa. We were glad we made that decision when we did, since the very next day getting to it became almost impossible. The house was nice, but needed some work before it would be livable. Though the home is small, the yard is big and very pretty with several fruit trees and room for more. The back wall is now finished and secured.
The next important need for the house, was electricity. We found a man in the Merci Village who is a Haitian electrician named Junior. He gave us a bid and we gave him the job. Electricity is very sporadic in the area, so they may only get 3 or 4 hours of power a day.
Our daughter, Holly, and her family, came from Puerto Rico for the wedding. It was wonderful to finally get to see their family again. The following day our daughter Sara, close friends of ours, Jeff and Lynn Purkiss and groomsman Joseph Burda arrived.
The day of the wedding arrived with major rains in the forecast. Holly and Sara became the designated wedding coordinators and Lynn was our last minute photographer. This day was also our wedding anniversary, so it was really special for Ken and I. The Turnbulls, Pastor Wallace and his beautiful wife Eleanor, honored our family with their presence standing in as Kenny’s honorary grandparents. As Laissa came down the aisle, a recording of her singing was being played. When she reached the front of the church, she sang with her recorded voice. It was beautiful. John Leininger opened with a prayer which Pastor Etienne translated into Creole. The church choir then sang a few hymns. It was a wonderful, moving, worship service. During the service, there was a downpour of rain. Fortunately, it was over by the time the wedding was finished. Though we are different in color, language, heritage and culture, watching the Lord bring these two together in marriage united all of us. We realized God had accomplished so much to bring Kenny and Laissa to this point in their lives. We praise God for this amazing day and ask your prayers over them as they begin their lives together in service to Jesus Christ! If you would like the help them as they are setting up their home in Haiti, Kenny and Laissa are registered at amazon.com. The shipping address is through MFI to Laissa’s father, Lussade Eugene.
While we were gone for the wedding, we were not sure if Micah and Valerie’s baby might arrive. However, one week after Kenny’s wedding, on August 19th, Landon Maxwell Kennedy was born. He weighed 7 lbs. 12 ozs and is a beautiful and healthy baby. Each day Valerie is gaining strength and we ask your prayers for them as they adjust to their new lives with a precious little one. We are excited and blessed for this new gift from the Lord!
Celebrating our own anniversary, 40 years together by God’s grace, attending Kenny’s wedding, gaining Laissa in our family and welcoming baby Landon was quite a month for us. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
Grateful for His love!
