Dear Friends in Christ,
Many of you have been a part of our full time ministry since it began in 1992. Some of you have joined us on teams, building homes, medical work, passing out food packs and Bibles and sharing the love of Christ over the years. Because you supported and comforted us through Shelby's cancer, then her departure to Glory with Jesus in 2005, we want to share with you what God is currently doing through her life's legacy. It is difficult to express adequately the deep emotion and excitement we had this year attending the Shelby Kennedy Foundation Bible Bee finals in Tennessee.
This whole idea of a Bible Bee began at Shelby's memorial service where God gave a dear friend of ours the vision. Within 90 seconds, he said God gave him the idea. Over time, a board was formed and the first Bible Bee was organized. The finals were held on Nov. 6, 2009, Shelby's birthday. This has grown yearly and is having a major impact on young people across the U.S. We thought you would be interested to know more about this wonderful event. The following are excerpts from testimonies we have received:
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Kennedy,
It was a privilege to meet you at this year's Bible Bee. Over these past five years, the Bible Bee has meant so much to our family. Being surrounded and immersed in God's Word each day has brought incredible joy to our family. And, watching our son grow in his walk with the Lord has been a huge encouragement to us as parents.
Many thanks to both of you and the many others who have made this ministry possible.
Dear Ken and Debbi,
Our family is so very thankful for you. God shaped and molded your treasured daughter, Shelby and fashioned her for His purposes. We would not have wanted you to suffer the loss and experience the grief, but we have been so very blessed by the fruits of her life and passion.
Without the Bible Bee, we may have continued loving God's Word, reading it, and trying to live it out by the power of the Holy Spirit, but it is very possible that we may not have had the tools, instruction, encouragement, challenge, camaraderie, and motivation to inductively study the Bible and memorize His Word to this extent. It has become true family discipleship that God has used to unite and strengthen our family with the bonds of Christ. Oh, how thankful we are for Shelby's vision for His Word to go out in a rippling effect! God is being glorified and His Word is being rooted deeply. Our children continue to study God's Word and the rooms continue to fill with precious and pleasant riches.
We appreciate the wonderful words of encouragement regarding the Bible Bee and the impact it is having on lives. Shelby would be blessed to hear the testimonies of those whose lives have been enriched by God's Word.
Kenny returned to Haiti on Christmas day. He has lots of work to get ready for a group going down in January. OSM will be hosting a medical team in March. If you are interested in being a part of this team, the cost is $1,400/person plus airfare. If you have other questions, please contact us by phone or e-mail.
Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. Eight of our children and their families celebrated with us. We were blessed to share a meal and a wonderful afternoon together. Our hearts are full of rejoicing for the work of Christ in our lives. Thank you so much for your prayers and support so we could minister in Haiti and Mexico this year. May Jesus Christ remain the center of yours and our lives throughout 2014!
Because of Christ,
The Kennedy Family
