Dear Friends in Christ,
"Be Strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified… For the Lord goes with you always!" Deuteronomy 31:6
What words of encouragement to hold fast to after a disaster as tragic as hurricane Katrina!
The Kennedy and Sweet families spent part of the month of September in Louisiana & Mississippi. Ken and the boys, along with long time friend Ken Echols joined Peter and Justin of Vision Forum to visit pastors to see what can be done to assist them in helping their congregations. The devastation there is indescribable! We were amazed by the quick response of so many people in coming to serve. Many churches seem to have an abundance of help yet others are still in need.
While there we were able to help the precious family who lodged us, with some yard work, cleaning debris from the hurricane.
Dana, Liz & family were able to help Dana’s Mom, Maxine, who was in the process of moving when the hurricane hit. They helped her clean up her yard and get settled in her new home in Denham Springs, east of Baton Rouge, LA. Abe had the opportunity to help serve food for evacuees at a local church.
Churches on every corner have opened their doors for shelter and were the focal points of the food and supply distribution in their areas. It was exciting to see the Body of Christ reaching out to so many different people.
We plan to return in the following weeks and through local churches help minister to the communities. Many people need help cleaning debris out of their yards, as well as cleaning and gutting their houses. The work possibilities are endless. Please remember to be in prayer for the victims of hurricane Katrina and Rita. If you would like to help fund this project please designate your donation to the Katrina disaster relief fund.
The Sweets have returned to Mexico, Sara has been there as well, helping some of the ladies of the Juan 3:16 Church with sewing projects. We’ll give you more of an update on Mexico in our next newsletter.
We continuously thank the Lord for the tremendous prayer, as well as financial support He has blessed us with through each of you! Thank you!
Because of Christ,
The Kennedy & Sweet families
